Spring Repair
A snapped torsion or extension spring, a door that weighs a ton by hand, or a gap in the coil above the opening.

Santa Clarita became one city in 1987, when Valencia, Saugus, Newhall and Canyon Country joined in what the City calls the largest area ever to incorporate in California. We fix garage doors in all four, and in the canyons around them. Tell us what the door does when you press the button.

Six kinds of garage door jobs, each on its own page with the parts involved, the warning signs and what a visit looks like.

A snapped torsion or extension spring, a door that weighs a ton by hand, or a gap in the coil above the opening.

Openers that hum without lifting, reverse for no reason, ignore the remote or stop halfway up the track.
More on Opener Repair →
Chain, belt, screw and wall-mount openers fitted to the door you have, with the battery backup California requires.

Steel, wood-look, carriage-style and glass sectional doors measured, hung, balanced and sealed in one job.

A frayed or slack lift cable, a roller out of the track, a crooked door or a bent section of rail.

Insulated door options, new bottom rubber, side and top seals for garages that bake in a valley summer.
More on Insulation and Seals →Usually one of six things, and each one points at a different part of the door. Match the symptom below, then read the page for that repair. If a spring or cable is involved, leave the door where it is.
A sharp crack from a closed garage usually means a torsion spring let go. See garage door spring repair.
The door touches down, then climbs back up. A bumped or dirty photo eye is the first thing to check.
The opener only steers a door the springs balance. If it labors, the springs may be the real fault, not the motor.
One side lower than the other points to a slack or frayed lift cable. See garage door cable and track repair.
Light along the floor means the bottom seal no longer meets the slab. Dust, heat and pests follow it in.
An opener that quits in every power cut lacks the battery backup California has required on newly installed openers since July 1, 2019.
Because the city's homes come from three distinct building eras, and each brings its own kind of door. About 30.7% of housing units predate 1980, mostly the 1960s and 1970s streets of Newhall and parts of Canyon Country. Roughly 40% went up in the 1980s and 1990s, the single biggest wave, and the 1980s alone added 25.9%. Another 29.0% date from 2000 or later, much of it in the newer Valencia and Saugus tracts. An older home may still run extension springs beside the tracks, while a newer one may have a heavier insulated door. We repair springs, openers, cables, tracks, rollers and seals, and install new doors and openers, across all of it.

The same safety checks close out every visit, whatever brought us out. First the door comes off the opener to see whether it holds still part-way open, because a door the springs no longer balance can drop on its own and strains everything attached to it. Next the photo eyes: CPSC advises mounting them 4 to 6 inches above the floor, facing each other squarely. Then the opener gets tested against a rigid 2-inch object, the reversal check California law asks of anyone servicing an opener, and a unit that fails gets a red warning tag. You see the price in writing before any work begins, and the old parts stay with you.

Yes, mostly for the wall around the door. USGS lists Santa Clarita among the places with significant damage in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, when strong shaking at Newhall Pass brought down two connectors at the I-5 and Route 14 interchange. Aftershocks were centered inside the valley, and the San Gabriel fault zone runs near Saugus and Castaic. FEMA's builders' guide names excessive drift at garage fronts as a recurring kind of house damage, worst under living space. Bracing that wall is engineering work. Keeping the door in it balanced and running true is ours.
Calls come from all four city communities, Valencia, Saugus, Newhall and Canyon Country, and from unincorporated Stevenson Ranch and Castaic, plus Agua Dulce and Val Verde out along the canyons.
