Spring Repair
A snapped torsion or extension spring, a door that weighs a ton by hand, or a gap in the coil above the opening.
More on Spring Repair →Stevenson Ranch has the youngest homes on our map: the median house went up in 1999, and 79.3% date from the 1990s and 2000s. Only 2.4% are older than 1980, so worn springs, not worn-out doors, drive most calls.

Because most doors here are young enough to be sound but old enough to have outlived their first springs. A house from 1999 has had its garage door for more than two decades, while torsion springs usually last 8 to 15 years and extension springs 7 to 12. DASMA treats spring life and door life as separate measures, so a solid door can still hang on tired springs. In this community 41.4% of homes went up in the 2000s and 37.9% in the 1990s, which puts a large share of springs in that window at once. On every call we test the balance, look over the cables and drums, and run the opener's reversal test before we leave.

We work across the whole community, which is unincorporated Los Angeles County land beside the City of Santa Clarita, not part of it. These cards mark the roads and canyons that the fire and oil records name.
CAL FIRE places the small 2026 Max Fire, 45 acres, near this road and Pico Canyon.
Up the canyon sits Mentryville, an 1880s oil town whose Pico No. 4 well ran until 1990.
The 2016 Sage Fire started off Calgrove Blvd and burned 1,100 acres.
Where it meets West Pico Canyon Rd, CAL FIRE starts the 128-acre Pico Fire of 2018.
August averages 94.0 F by day and 63.5 F at night; seal material matters in that much sun.
January runs from a 61.8 F afternoon to a 45.4 F night at the Newhall 5 NW station, which sits inside the community.
Of about 17.22 inches a year, almost all falls in these months; water on the slab points to a worn bottom seal.
The NWS puts the usual window here, peaking in December, with the strongest gusts below passes and canyon mouths.
